We love all of our famous internet cats, and Pompous Albert is no exception. The purebred Selkirk Rex started out as a show cat but was rejected because his head was too small, hence his Instagram bio “Rejected show cat, but I’ll show them!” And he’s definitely stayed true to his word. Pompous Albert’s fame has skyrocketed ever since his humans started his Instagram page back in 2014. With more than 307,000 followers, Albert delights his fans with his antics, sarcastic comments and permanent scowl.

When it was clear Albert wouldn’t be winning any best-in-show prizes, he made his way to Mike and Susan Singleton. “At the time, we had two rescue cats who lived at our office,” Mike says. “We were asked by a former employee if we would take in another cat.” Mike and Susan welcomed him to join the office cats at their local business office in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Named for Albert Einstein because of his crazy, curly, white-gray hair, Albert made himself at home. “Albert is the relatable, snarky yet fun coworker at the office,” Mike says. “If he were a person, he’d be the center of attention at the water cooler. He shows people that it’s OK to look and be different and still shine.”

Don’t let that cranky look fool you, though. Mike says that even though Albert looks perpetually cranky, he is fun-loving and craves attention. “His purr is loud, and his personality is louder,” Mike says. “As an office cat, he constantly sits directly on the keyboard and is mesmerized by things like the printer. We’ll often find him inside a filing cabinet or napping behind the computer monitor.” Sounds like a typical office cat to us!
